7. Pear Face Shape - Least Common, But Not Least Fabulous

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Pear shape, also known as Triangular shaped face, is the combination of greater width at the chin and jaw line and narrowness at the hairline and forehead. With your pear-shaped face it is best to look for wigs that will add volume above the jaw line. Layers create volume and fullness on the upper half of your face, deflecting the attention from the middle of the face. Don't be afraid to show your forehead which draws attention upward and away from a full jaw line. If you have bangs, angle them slightly and tuck them behind the ears to frame the jaw line and draw attention upward. Hair on the sides of your head and at the nape are best set and combed in a pattern close to the head since any style too voluminous will add weight to the bottom of the face.

Wear your hair wide and full at the top of the head and temples, brushed away from the face and up toward the ear to widen forehead; from the ear, angle hair forward toward the chin to soften and narrow a strong jaw. Do not wear styles that are full at the jawline however.

Chin length, or longer, is highly recommended for this face shape. Quick, somebody forward this blog to Kelly Osbourne!

6. Heart Face Shape - Love at First Sight

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Heart shape faces are commonly called 'upside-down triangle' faces, as is very little of your face at the jaw line, much more at the eye line, cheek bones and even more at the brow line. To soften the forehead width, look for a wig hairstyle or hairpiece that allows you to bring some hair across it. Keep the hairstyle closer to the head near the eyes and fuller around the jaw, as well as below and in front of the earlobes where additional width is desired. A chin length bob is great for this type of face shape as it makes the jaw area appear wider and more balanced with the rest of your face. Longer, layered hairstyles also work well.

Wear wig styles or hair pieces that create a side part with soft three-quarter bangs swept over one side to balance your forehead width. The styles should be fuller at the top than at the jaw line. Up swept at the sides and off the forehead further emphasize your feminine appeal. A medium length to mid-neck is your best look. Fullness at the bottom, with hair directed forward onto the cheeks gives you the appearance of a wide chin. Curls or loose waves, shaped from the ears down, add width and fullness to your chin. You are also best off avoiding short hair and choppy layers.

While gorgeous actress, Naomi Watts, is not taking advice on the forehead covering, notice how her above hairstyle is close to the head, below and in front of the ears, and an overall great choice for her heart-shaped face.

5. Oblong Face Shape - Narrow-Shaped, But Not Narrow-Minded

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Oblong shape, as the name suggests, is where your entire face (and often neck) is long and thin, often with a chin that tends to look pointed. There is very little difference in width between the top, middle or bottom of your face but it is more rounded than the square face.

This shape benefits from a wigs or hairpieces with a low side part, where a sweep of hair is brushed across the forehead adding a look of volume with an asymmetric flow of hair to one side widens your face and reduces length. Straight-falling bangs or bangs blended with the sides of your hair shorten the overall face length. Your best hair length reaches to the middle of the neck. Favor volume with curly or wavy styles that are very becoming, giving you the illusion of balanced width.

Look for wig styles that are short to medium in length with longer top layers such as wedges and graduated bob cuts. Layered styles in medium and longer lengths with wavy and curly textures will flatter the face and neck while obscuring the straight long lines of an oblong face.

Liv Tyler, actress and daughter of Aerosmith rocker, Steven Tyler, is a perfect example of the oblong face shape, done right. Her style, seen above, is multi-length and adds width and fullness at the sides with soft waves, creating the illusion of a more oval shape.

4. Square Face Shape - All About That Jaw

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Square shape to your face gives you a jawline fit for a queen, usually matched by the hairline. Because of this, wig hairstyles that work best are the ones that add height to the top and narrowness at the sides. You want to pick styles that create the illusion of length to the face by adding height on top and narrowness at the sides. Try a curly wig that is mid-length to long, or even one that allows for wisps of hair around your face. However, avoid one-length styles, as they only punctuate the angles created by the strong jawline.

You'll want to pick styles that emphasize the cheekbones mid-line of the face are most flattering. Bangs and waves at the temple also soften the square. Wear your best styles with hair swinging forward onto the face to reduce the angles. Hair length is best about 1-1/2" below the chin, or extending to shoulder length to reduce and soften the squareness of your jaw.

Hair worn on the forehead is always perfect for you, as long as it is wispy or fringed. Never wear straight bangs. Hair turned under at the bottom also will narrow the width of the jaw. Styles in loose curls and waves add extra dimension to the square face.

You'll notice that actress Sandra Bullock's hair is multi-length, has that soft look, and works great with that perfectly chiseled jaw.

3. Diamond Face Shape - Cheekbones Like a Diamond in the Rough

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Diamond-shaped faces gives you wider cheekbones with a narrow chin and forehead. Here you need a wig hairstyle that reduces width at the sides, and gives you more fullness at the chin (lower cheekbones).

Bands or a layered fringe will disguise a narrower forehead, as will the addition of bangs. The fullness at the jawbone with a style such as a bob or a shoulder length cut with jaunty layering to add some movement will give the illusion of a more oval shaped face. Wig styles that tuck in behind the ears also will work well, in addition to showing off your wonderful cheek bone structure. Try to avoid volume at the sides along the cheek line.

Actress, Kate Hudson, is a stellar example of the diamond face shape. Notice how her hairstyle (above photograph) falls just right on the wide cheekbones, reducing width. That's what a high-priced Hollywood stylist does for you!

2. Round Face Shape - The Ultimate Slimdown

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Round-shaped faces give you a round chin and hairline with the widest part of the face through the cheekbones. Because more of your face is near the ears and gradually less curving upward and downward, the goal is to select a wig hairstyle that slims your face and reduce roundness.

It's best to avoid short and sleeked-back hairstyles. In short-angled styles, you are best seen with hair brushed away from the face, building extra crown height to narrow the roundness of your features. Though bangs shorten the face, you can wear curly, tousled side bangs. Always avoid straight-falling bangs. Wear longer styles closer to your face to give length.

You should consider wigs with short hair styles with a swept-back direction or with hair styles that are longer than chin length. Wigs which have layering at the top to achieve fullness while keeping the rest of the cut relatively close to the face, will help make your round face shape appear longer and narrower.

Actress, Christina Ricci, is a perfect example of this face shape. Notice that cheekbones are much wider than the chin, which comes almost to a point.

1. Oval Face Shape - Most Versatile with Wig Selections

Photobucket Photobucket

Oval is considered by many to be the loveliest and most versatile face shape since nearly every style looks sensational on this face with perfect symmetry. Your forehead, cheekbones, jaw line and chin are in perfectly balanced proportion, where no one area is more dominant than another. And, because the oval shaped face is so proportional, almost any wig hairstyle will look good and suit your face shape. Because this face shape allows for such versatility, consider your best features such as eyes, checks, or mouth and then accentuate them with your wig style.

R&B Singer, Beyonce, is a perfect example of this versatile face shape. (Some women just have it all!)

First Step: How to Determine Which Wig is Right for Your Face Shape:

Wigs and hairpieces should compliment the shape of your face. If your not sure about which wig style will be most flattering on you, use the following suggestions as a guide to find a wig that works with your face shape. At Wigs for Fun, we examine seven different face shapes: diamond, heart, oblong, oval, pear, round, and square. From here, we work to determine which wig styles are most appropriate each individual face shape. This is the first step in finding the perfect wig to match your needs.

Here's how to find the hair styles that work best for you. Styles should accentuate your best facial features
while minimizing your less-than-best features.

To find your face shape:

1. Pull hair back and secure so hair is totally off the face.

2. Stand 12" from a mirror and look straight into it. -- Or, use a picture of yours

3. Outline your face with a marker on the mirror, with drawing paper or on the photo itself.

4. Now look at your face shape in the mirror or the photo drawing. At first there may appear to be more than one shape. Though your face may not be an exact duplicate of any single shape, it will more closely resemble one shape over all other shapes shown. Pick the shape most closely resembling your own.

In the next few posts, we will breakdown each of the seven face shapes, including every single bit of information you need to know!
